We first found Rosa lying immobile, exhausted and barely conscious. She was starved and dehydrated, weighing only 28 pounds, a stark contrast to her once healthy state. Her body was nothing but skin and bones, and there were visible ulcers on her legs. She couldn’t stand, let alone walk. The poor girl had been left in isolation, enduring endless loneliness, and it was clear she had not received food or water for several days. Her body was riddled with infections, and parts of her bones were exposed, a heart-wrenching sight that broke our hearts.
Rosa’s condition was dire. Her prognosis was very guarded, but we knew she deserved a fighting chance. We rushed her to the hospital, hoping that with proper care, she could pull through. We began administering critical care: fluids, antibiotics, pain medications, and temperature regulation to stabilize her. The next 48 hours were crucial, and we prayed she would survive the night. We had no idea what had happened to her, but it was clear she had suffered from severe neglect. She was malnourished and fragile, and her journey to recovery would be long and uncertain.
In those first days, we could only wait and hope for the best. Rosa was so weak that she could barely lift her head, let alone move her body. Yet, despite her condition, there was something in her eyes—a quiet determination to survive. We were all praying for a miracle. The next two days were critical, and we made sure to provide her with the best care possible, holding onto the hope that she would show signs of improvement. With every hour, we became more optimistic that she might have the strength to fight this.
To our amazement, just a few days later, Rosa started to stand. It was a small victory, but it was huge for her recovery. Watching her take her first steps was a moment of pure joy. She was still fragile, but there was a noticeable improvement in her condition. I had the privilege of visiting her in the hospital, and seeing her move around with a little more strength brought tears to my eyes. Rosa was not giving up, and neither were we.
Within a short time, Rosa’s weight had increased to 48 pounds—an incredible transformation. Her body was slowly but steadily recovering, and her legs were improving as well. Though there was still a long way to go, her progress was beyond what we could have hoped for. After nearly two months in the hospital, Rosa was becoming a different dog, one that was starting to shine with health and happiness once again.
I am so incredibly thankful for the amazing team of veterinarians and supporters who helped make this possible. Rosa’s recovery is a testament to the power of love, care, and determination. She deserves every bit of it, and I know she has a bright future ahead. We will continue to support her every step of the way, ensuring she has the best life possible from now on. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Rosa’s story is one of hope and resilience, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
